Srinagar: Taking a decisive stand against digital misinformation, the Srinagar Police on Tuesday announced a massive crackdown on news channels, media outlets, and social media users spreading fabricated information.
The move comes after authorities identified a systematic attempt to incite unrest and disturb public order through distorted narratives across various electronic platforms.
FIR Registered at Cyber Police Station
Following the detection of malicious misinformation campaigns, the Srinagar Police registered FIR No. 01/2026 at the Cyber Police Station. According to official sources, the investigation targets individuals and entities accused of circulating unverified content that poses a “grave threat to national integrity and communal harmony.”
Key actions taken so far:
Identification: Several social media profiles and media handles have been flagged.
Summons: Multiple individuals have already been summoned to the Cyber Cell for questioning.
Legal Action: Authorities confirmed that strict legal proceedings are underway against all identified offenders.
A Warning to Media Outlets and Content Creators
In a formal statement, the police issued a “clear warning” to those managing digital platforms. The department emphasized that the spread of inflammatory content or unverified news will result in stringent legal consequences.
“Srinagar Police remains resolute in maintaining law and order and will not allow any attempt to destabilize peace in the region,” the official handout read.
