JMI Life Sciences Faculty Hosts Hands-On Workshop on Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: Evidence Synthesis in Interdisciplinary Science

New Delhi, February 13, 2026: The Faculty of Life Sciences at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a one-day hands-on workshop on systematic review and meta-analysis on February 9, 2026. Titled “Learn Evidence Synthesis in Interdisciplinary Science,” the event drew 130 participants from top Indian universities and medical institutes, boosting research skills in evidence-based practices.

This JMI workshop on systematic review and meta-analysis underscored the faculty’s drive for research excellence and capacity building. It equipped students, researchers, and faculty from fields like biology, medicine, dentistry, engineering, and education with tools for credible, reproducible science.

Inaugural Session Spotlights Data-Driven Research

Prof. Shama Parveen, organizing secretary, kicked off with workshop goals. Dean Prof. Zahid Ashraf stressed reliable data’s role in modern science, calling systematic reviews and meta-analyses key for turning data into actionable evidence.

Guest Dr. Vikas Dhikav, Scientist ‘E’ at Department of Health Research (DHR) and ICMR senior medical scientist, praised the event’s unique interdisciplinary focus – rare in India. His keynote introduced systematic review basics, including the PICO framework (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome).

Key Technical Sessions and Hands-On Training

Experts led practical sessions on evidence synthesis:

  • Prof. Sudha Chandelia (Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital): Covered PROSPERO registration, literature searches, data extraction, and critical appraisal.
  • Dr. Manya Prasad (AIIMS New Delhi): Explained meta-analysis concepts, pooled results interpretation, and strengthening review conclusions.
  • Dr. Saurabh Verma (DHR): Detailed funding schemes, eligibility, and national programs for evidence-based healthcare.
  • Mr. Ravindra Gupta (Elsevier Life Sciences): Demoed EMBASE database for advanced biomedical searches.
  • Hands-On RevMan Session by Prof. Prabudh Goel (AIIMS New Delhi): Step-by-step training on data organization, meta-analysis, forest plots – the event’s standout feature.

Chairpersons from top institutes moderated discussions, enriching the interdisciplinary exchange.

Over 130 attendees joined from:
