This Covid-19 pandemic has shown us the worse of worse and the deprivation of resources that people belonging from low socio-economic background have to face. From the sudden unannounced lockdown they are churning into this never ending challenges of daily living and basic needs, right from walking hundreds of miles to reach their hometown, to the deaths that happened because of starvation, to the mistreatment in isolation centres, to the recent Train accident that took lives of 17 who were in their journey to reach their homes.
Here we bring you another tale of the struggles that these people are going through.
This story is from Chilla village, near Khadar that comes under East Delhi district. This small village is situated near Jamuna and around 80 to 90 people live here.
The route to reach this village requires a boat, that means that they donโt have any road access, and they commute to their village Via boat. Even in a normal day to day life itโs a struggle to live In a place like this, but their struggle becomes more with this lockdown. With no work to support their bellies for food, people living here have more to go through, even if itโs a medical emergency they say that they donโt have any other option but to cross the water with the boat and than cross the Kachcha Rasta , and than reach the main road.
Imagine how much of pain and hopelessness this pandemic lockdown is bringing for them.
Getting infected with a virus is something that they canโt see with their eyes open, because what they can see is no food and ultimately starvation.
We had people ADIL SIDDIQUI, RIHAN SIDDIQUI, AREEB NASEEM along with us, who has formed a group named as Al-khidmat and they help in providing ration and food to those who are in need. We would like to thanks them for their help and support for providing ration to the families living there in this time of need.
Many NGOโS and Independent organisations are working day and night to provide for the people who are in need as far as possible , but the important question that rises here is that is it really the Job of the NGOโs or independent organisations to look for funds and provide these people? What role is the government or any other political party should be playing here in this situation for these people? Or will the focus will only be on making India a super power with its most big portion of the population being deprived of even one time food a day.
We all are in the same storm , with different ships.
