New Delhi: Dr. Anand Vardhan Sharma, Former Judge, has been honored with a prestigious International Law Award presented by the United Nations, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Bar Association of India in recognition of his outstanding contributions as a human rights activist.
The award was conferred during the 2nd New Delhi International Rule of Law Convention held at the Indian Habitat Center and organized by the Bar Association of India in collaboration with the Bar Council of India. Dr. Sharma, who also serves as the Chief National Convenor of the NHRC and Secretary Member of ICHR, received this accolade from representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Geneva.
The convention focused on “Global Economic Governance and Principles of Rule of Law with emphasis on Economic Governance and Cross-Border Terrorism.” It was attended by numerous international dignitaries, scholars, ambassadors, and Indian Cabinet Ministers including Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal.
The event in New Delhi brought together jurists, activists, ambassadors, lawyers, and bar association members from 32 countries to discuss key issues related to the rule of law.
A highlight of the convention was the presentation of the prestigious international award to Dr. Anand Vardhan Sharma for his exemplary and continuous work in law, human rights, and education. This marks the second consecutive time he has received such recognition for his contributions in fields including law, human rights, and environmental protection. His impactful work has been acknowledged and appreciated by prominent international authorities worldwide.
The award was presented by Honorable Supreme Court Justices J.K. Maheshwari, N. Kotiswar Singh, and V. Rama Subramanian, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of India, honoring Dr. Sharma’s dedication as a jurist, human rights defender, educationist, and social reformer.
