Srinagar, Nov 16: A massive fire gutted a mosque in Drass area of Ladakh this evening, official sources said.
They told GNS that the fire broke out at Qadeem Hanfia Jamia Masjid Shareef and soon after spread to whole of the structure. “Locals alongside police and army reached the spot and launched a rescue operation, however the flames went out of control and gutted the mosque in entirety”, they said.
There was no injury reported in the incident.
A local on condition of anonymity in the meantime told GNS that there is no Fire Service Station in Drass. “Fire tenders’ were sought from Kargil to put off the flames, had there been any Fire Service Station in Drass, the loss could have been avoided”, he said adding they urge authorities to establish a Fire Service Station in Drass to tackle any such eventuality in future.
