New Delhi | February 13, 2026: The campus of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) turned into a hub of culture and entrepreneurship as three prominent girls’ hostels collaborated to organize ‘Meena Bazaar’. Held on February 11 at the Begum Hazrat Mahal hostel complex, the festival celebrated traditional handicrafts, diverse cuisines, and student-led innovation.
A Grand Inauguration
The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Shabaya Asif, spouse of JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif. The ceremony was graced by several distinguished guests, including:
- Dr. Zeba Naaz: Guest of Honour and spouse of JMI Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi.
- Mrs. Humera Ahtesham: Spouse of the Controller of Examinations, Prof. Ahteshamul Haque.

What set this ‘Meena Bazaar’ apart was its management; the festival was conceived and executed exclusively by the residents of Begum Hazrat Mahal (BHM) Hostel, J&K Hostel, and the Hall of Girls’ Residence (HOGR).
The event served as a practical lab for entrepreneurship and marketing, allowing students to:
- Showcase Talent: Residents displayed intricate traditional handicrafts from across India.
- Celebrate Diversity: The stalls reflected the multicultural fabric that Jamia Millia Islamia is renowned for.
- Culinary Skills: Food stalls featuring regional delicacies from various Indian states were a major highlight, drawing large crowds.
University-Wide Participation
The bazaar saw a high turnout from the university community. Notable attendees included the Dean of Students’ Welfare, various Heads of Departments, and faculty members. The visitors lauded the students for their creativity and organizational skills.

The successful coordination of the festival was led by the Provosts of the participating hostels: Prof. Sheema Aleem (BHM), Prof. Nikhat Manzoor (J&K Girls’ Hostel), and Prof. Rana Noor (HOGR Old).
