Srinagar, November 6: In a major breakthrough against anti-national activities, Srinagar Police on Thursday evening foiled a terror plot by arresting three suspects and seizing arms and ammunition from their possession, thereby averting a possible attack.
According to police, a team from Police Station Khanyar intercepted a black Royal Enfield motorcycle without a registration number during routine checking near Mamta Chowk, Konakhan, Dalgate. When signalled to stop, the rider and two pillion passengers tried to flee but were swiftly overpowered by alert personnel.
The arrested individuals were identified as Shah Mutayib, son of Manzoor Ahmad Shah, resident of Koolipora Khanyar; Kamran Hassan Shah, son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, resident of Koolipora Khanyar; and Mohammad Nadeem, son of Mohammad Yaseen Salmani, a native of Meerut (U.P.) currently residing at Kawa Mohalla, Khanyar.
A search led to the recovery of one country-made pistol (desi katta) and nine live rounds. Preliminary investigation suggests that the trio was planning to carry out a terror-related act in the area using the recovered weapon and ammunition.
Police have registered FIR No. 51/2025 at Police Station Khanyar under sections 3, 7, and 25 of the Arms Act, sections 20 and 23 of the UAPA, and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Further investigation is underway to trace their network, associates, and possible connections with other subversive groups. The police statement added that the swift and professional response of Srinagar Police reaffirms its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the city.
