Srinagar, April 14: Police have registered an FIR against Sameer Ali Bhat, son of Ghulam Muhammad Bhat from Pallar Budgam, for operating a fake WhatsApp account in the name of SSP Budgam and sharing chat screenshots to mislead the public.
In a statement to GNS, police revealed they received credible information about Bhat posing as a close aide of the SSP. Verification confirmed his involvement in multiple prior FIRs and use of the number +91-9622126997 for the impersonation. He circulated conversation screenshots to gain undue influence.
Budgam Police Station swiftly acted, filing FIR No. 90/2026 under Section 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66-C of the Information Technology Act.
Authorities urged the public to stay vigilant against such frauds, stick to official contact numbers on government websites, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station for immediate action.
