Dastaan-è-Barsaat: Music and Memories Drenched the Audience at Triveni Auditorium

Date:

NEW DELHI: On July 23, the Triveni Auditorium in Mandi House transformed into a realm of melody, nostalgia, and monsoon magic. Presented by the Three Arts Club and Katyayani, the production Dastaan-è-Barsaat soaked a humid Delhi evening in classic tunes, drawing thunderous applause and spontaneous dancing from an enchanted crowd.

A Seven-Fold Symphony of the Monsoon

Conceived, written, and presented by Nidhikant Pandey, the production unfolded across seven thematic segments. Designed to mirror the seven notes of music and the seven colors of the rainbow, the performance captured the multifaceted moods of the rainy season. Adding literary depth were seven shers of a ghazal specially crafted for the evening by Prof. Prabhat Patel of Bhopal, which resonated deeply with the audience.

Producers Sohaila Kapur and Anuradha Dar successfully brought the timeless romance, longing, and childlike innocence of the Indian monsoon to the stage. Vocalists Devanand Jha and Geeta Bageshwari led the musical voyage, their soulful renditions prompting audience members to sway in their seats and sing along throughout the night.

The Spirit of the Rains

In India, the monsoon is far more than a weather pattern—it is a tapestry of emotion, nostalgia, and renewal. Dastaan-è-Barsaat paid homage to every facet of the season:

  • Nature’s Revival: From the earthy fragrance of wet soil (petrichor) to lush, green landscapes and rustling breezes.
  • Romance and Longing: Rain-soaked streets, shared umbrellas, and the bittersweet pangs of separation.
  • Rural Celebrations: Village swings, folk melodies echoing through the countryside, and the hope rain brings to farming communities.
  • Childhood Nostalgia: Paper boats floating down overflowing streets and the simple joy of getting drenched.

The narrative underscored a universal truth: just as soothing rains inevitably follow scorching heat, difficult times always give way to brighter days.

Stagecraft, Soundscapes, and Visual Magic

The production was as much a visual and sensory treat as an auditory one.

A Grand Finale Under Decorative Umbrellas

The audience’s enthusiasm remained high throughout the show, with frequent requests for repeat performances. A standout moment came during the rendition of Lagi Aaj Sawan Ki Phir Woh Jhadi Hai, which was met with prolonged, roaring applause.

The evening reached its climax with the Hindi cinema classic, Pyar Hua Ikraar Hua. Swept up in the magic of the finale, audience members picked up the decorative umbrellas lining the stage and danced together in the aisles.

Concluding the event, producer Anuradha Dar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the artists, crew, and audience for turning the presentation into a vibrant, shared celebration of life and rain.
