NEW DELHI: In a powerful initiative aimed at nurturing young minds, Three Arts Club—one of Delhi’s oldest and most revered theatre groups—has joined forces with the ASHI Foundation to host a production-oriented theatre workshop for less privileged children.
The initiative brings together students from various government schools across the capital. The workshop, which commenced on June 1, 2026, is set to culminate on June 20 with a grand live stage production at the Andhra School in New Delhi, where parents, teachers, and community members will gather to witness the children’s final presentation.
Art Meets Awareness: Exploring Technology and the Environment
The workshop is mentored by Nidhikant Pandey, a seasoned media and theatre professional who has been a pillar of the Three Arts Club for 17 years. Through immersive sessions and creative exercises, Pandey has been guiding the children to use theatre as a powerful medium for self-discovery and expression.
This year’s final production tackles a highly relevant theme: the impact of technology on modern life. The play encourages young participants to critically reflect on contemporary societal issues and develop a balanced perspective on digital consumption.
The workshop’s curriculum also extends beyond the stage:
- Environmental Stewardship: On World Environment Day (June 5), Pandey led a session sensitizing the children to environmental conservation and the responsibilities of global citizenship.
- Expert Mentorship: Renowned educationist and theatre organiser Anuradha Dar visited the workshop to interact with the participants, praising their creativity and enthusiasm.
Organisational Leadership: Dr. Anjila Gugnani played a pivotal role in organizing the initiative, driving forward the shared vision of both organizations to empower youth through the arts.
A Night at the Theatre: Watching ‘Meri Filmi Yatra’
To deepen their understanding of professional stagecraft, a group of 40 children, accompanied by ASHI Foundation team members, went on a special field trip on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The group visited the prestigious Stein Auditorium at the India Habitat Centre to watch Meri Filmi Yatra – Balraj Sahni, a professional production written and performed by their workshop mentor, Nidhikant Pandey.
“The visit provided the young participants with a rare opportunity to experience a full-scale stage production and gain a deeper understanding of the art and craft of theatre.”
The performance celebrated the enduring legacy of the legendary Indian actor Balraj Sahni, blending live music, storytelling, and dramatic narration. The children watched the production with immense discipline and enthusiasm, finding the experience both educational and deeply inspiring.
Three Arts Club: Decades of Giving Back
This collaboration marks the continuation of a long-standing tradition for Three Arts Club. Working with youth has been an integral part of the Club’s DNA since the 1950s, when its pioneering children’s theatre initiative first launched at Sapru House.
By partnering with the ASHI Foundation, the Club continues to uphold its founding philosophy: using cultural activities and the performing arts as a vehicle for philanthropy and social change.
