Urdu Medium Students Excel When Given the Right Opportunities”: Dr. Zaheer I. Qazi
New Delhi: The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) organized a programme at its Jasola headquarters in New Delhi, focusing on the theme ‘Urdu Medium Education: Challenges and Opportunities.’ The Council’s Director, Dr. Shams Iqbal, welcomed Dr. Zaheer I. Qazi in honor of his Padma Shri award and noted his deep association with the Council. While discussing the challenges and prospects of Urdu medium education, Dr. Shams Iqbal stressed the importance of viewing the Urdu language through a positive lens. He highlighted that Urdu is spoken, written, read, and understood across many regions of India, and after Hindi and English, it offers considerable employment opportunities.
The esteemed guest, Dr. Zaheer I. Qazi, emphasized the need to enhance the quality of Urdu schools, which would require dedicated efforts, and called for more focus on higher education. He advocated for integrating Urdu with technology and appreciated the Council’s initiatives in this regard. He also noted that the film industry has made significant contributions to the promotion of the Urdu language.
Mr. Mohammad Afzal remarked that the Urdu language adds grace to one’s personality and provides opportunities to bring hidden talents to light and share them with the world. He emphasized that the charm and strength of Urdu words reflect a sense of determination and appeal, which can lead individuals to success.
Mr. Mohammad Abdul Sattar stressed the need to improve the quality of Urdu newspapers. Other Governing Council members, including Mrs. Nazneen Ansari (Varanasi) and Mr. Irfan Ali Abdulmajid Peerzada, also shared their insights. Mr. Arshad Faridi (Delhi), Dr. Syed Masheer Alam (Odisha), and Dr. Shamsher Singh (Jammu & Kashmir) were also present at the event.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shams Iqbal. Attendees included Assistant Director (Administration) Mr. Mohammad Ahmed, Research Officers Intikhab Ahmed and Shahnawaz Mohammad Khurram, Dr. Masrat (Research Officer), Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed (Assistant Education Officer), and the entire staff of the Council.
