Ajmer Sharif Dargah head urges global audience to embrace love, humility amid rising tensions.
London, March 15, 2026: Haji Syed Salman Chishty, Gaddi Nashin of Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Chairman of the Chishty Foundation, captivated a global audience with a profound address on Sufism and self-realization at the Voices of Faith dialogue in London’s Barbican Centre.
Organized by Teamwork Arts in partnership with the Kamini and Vindi Banga Family Trust, the event gathered eminent spiritual leaders, scholars, and thinkers—including Sir Trevor Phillips, Justice Rohinton F. Nariman, Rabbi Jonathan Romain, Lama Khyimsa Rinpoche, and broadcaster Georgina Godwin—to explore faith’s role in fostering compassion and a peaceful future. Curated by Sanjoy K. Roy, Kamini Banga, and Vindi Banga, the dialogue featured discussions on wisdom traditions amid global challenges.

In conversation with Godwin, Salman Chishty drew from the Chishty Sufi tradition of Ajmer Sharif, emphasizing love, service, humility, and human unity. “The essence of Sufism is the journey from the self to the Self,” he said. “Our sages have taught: ‘Man ‘arafa nafsahu faqad ‘arafa rabbahu’—Those who know themselves, know their Lord. When the heart awakens to its inner truth, it transcends divisions of religion, race, and nation. What remains is compassion, service to humanity, and the recognition that the Divine light shines within every soul.”
Chishty stressed interfaith dialogue’s urgency in an era of tensions and fragmentation, invoking Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishty (Gharib Nawaz)’s timeless message: “Love towards all, malice towards none.” The event ended with a call for collaboration among spiritual traditions to build understanding and shared ethics.
