New Delhi, September 28, 2026: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has jumped 42 places to secure the 334th position globally in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, up from 376th in 2025. The university also ranked 13th in India and 192nd in Asia.
The UI GreenMetric rankings, launched by Universitas Indonesia, assess universities worldwide on sustainability indicators including energy use, waste management, water conservation, transportation, and environmental education.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif congratulated the Jamia community—faculty, students, researchers, alumni, and staff—for their collective efforts. “This recognition reflects our sustained commitment to academic excellence, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development,” he said, adding that JMI will continue to strengthen its green initiatives.
Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi called the achievement a matter of pride and credited all stakeholders for enhancing JMI’s institutional standing nationally and globally.
The university specifically acknowledged the role of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), led by Director Prof. Rafat Parveen, for its work on data management, accreditation processes, and sustainability metrics that supported JMI’s improved ranking.
The result underscores coordinated efforts across faculties, departments, and administrative units in areas such as resource conservation, green infrastructure, and responsible campus management.
With this gain, JMI reinforces its trajectory toward greater sustainability and global recognition.
