New Delhi/Bhopal: A one-day seminar titled “Urdu Medium Education and the Current Technological Scenario in the Context of NEP 2020” was organized at the Bhopal Regional Centre campus of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in collaboration with the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), New Delhi, and MANUU’s Bhopal Regional Centre.
In the inaugural session, while delivering the welcome address, Dr. Shams Iqbal, Director of NCPUL, said that we are living in an era of multilingualism. We should benefit from other languages alongside Urdu and enhance our capabilities in them, as only then can we achieve success. He further stated that in this scientific and technological age, the key to progress is technology. We can progress only by aligning with the demands and priorities of the time. Technology has empowered languages with new strength and reach, opening new doors of possibilities.
Dr. Mohammad Ehsan, Regional Director of MANUU, Bhopal Regional Centre, in his introductory speech, emphasized the need to focus on the quality of Urdu medium education. The Registrar of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, Prof. S.K. Ishtiaq Ahmed, participated in this session as a special guest online and shed light on the implementation, significance, and utility of NEP 2020 in detail. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. A.R. Fatihi, former head of the Linguistics Department at Aligarh Muslim University. He said that today, technology has greatly increased its role in every sphere of life. Pressing a single button can accomplish many tasks. This technology has certainly provided many conveniences, but it has also brought some disadvantages. We are becoming overly dependent on it and using our intelligence and abilities less. In such a situation, how can institutions lacking basic facilities dream of technological development? But we should not be disheartened by this. Prof. Fatihi also gave detailed information about CBT, technology-related terminology, and other technical teaching materials.
This session was conducted by Dr. Iqbal Masood, former Deputy Secretary of the Urdu Academy, Bhopal, while the vote of thanks was presented by the Assistant Director (Academic) of NCPUL, Dr. Shama Kausar Yazdani.
