04 LeT Militant Associates Arrested in Sopore, Arms and Ammunition Recovered: Police

Srinagar, September 09: Police announced on Friday that they had busted a militant cell in Sopore, North Kashmir, and had captured four of its associates.

In a handout issued to GNS, the police said that today at about 16:20 hours ,a joint naka was established by PC Sopore along with 22 RR and 179 CRPF at Gousiabad Chowk Chinkipora in the jurisdiction of Police station Sopore.

According to a police spokeswoman, while monitoring, it was noticed that two people were moving suspiciously from Dangerpora toward Chinkipora. After being requested to stop, they attempted to leave, but were skilfully arrested by the watchful security officers at around 16:50 hours. Two grenades were discovered in their possession following a search of their person. They identified themselves as Shakir Akber Gojree, the son of Muhammad Akbar Gojree, a resident of Kuloosa Bandipora, and Mohsin Wani, the son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, a resident of Chinad Baramulla, during first questioning.

The arrested individuals are OGWs of organisation LeT, according to preliminary inquiry, and were constantly looking for an opportunity to attack security forces and civilians. Accordingly, a case has been filed at the Sopore Police Station in accordance with the necessary legal provisions, he said.

The names of other OGW associates were also revealed by the OGWs who had been apprehended during the course of the investigation, which resulted in their arrest and the discovery of additional weapons and ammunition, including an AK-47, explosive material, a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine, 7 live pistol rounds, and 25 AK-47 rounds.

Other OGWs include Faizan Ashraf Wani, the son of Mohd Ashraf Wani and a native of Nadihal Rafiabad, and Himayun Shariq, the son of Shariq Rasheed Dar. According to the statement, additional investigation is ongoing.
