Srinagar, December 10: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 18/2025 under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 201, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar. The chargesheet names four accused individuals in connection with a major multi-lakh land fraud case.
According to an official statement, the EOW has booked Shabir Ahmad Ganie, Bashir Ahmad Ganie, Javeed Ahmad Hakak (then Patwari), and a deceased Patwari for allegedly preparing and using forged land documents to defraud innocent buyers.
The case originated from a joint complaint lodged by several victims who had purchased 8 Kanals of land through brokers. As per the investigation, 4 Kanals were shown transferred in the name of one complainant under Khasra No. 92, 2 Kanals in another’s name under Khasra No. 99, and the remaining 2 Kanals in the name of the third complainant’s father. However, despite claimed transfers, no authentic ownership documents were ever provided.
Verification later revealed that the mutation numbers shared by the brokers were fabricated. During the investigation at Police Station EOW Srinagar, it was found that the accused—acting in criminal conspiracy—had forged land records to deceive the complainants and obtained Rs. 25 lakh under false pretenses.
The investigation established prima facie evidence of cheating, forgery, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy. The chargesheet has now been submitted for judicial proceedings.
The EOW reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens from economic offenses and ensuring justice through fair and professional investigations, the statement added.
