JIH Leaders Urge Voters to Shun Divisive Politics, Prioritize Democracy and Inclusive Growth; Flag FCRA Bill Risks and SIR Flaws

Date:

New Delhi: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) leadership voiced strong concerns on key national and global issues during its monthly press conference, including upcoming state elections, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) irregularities, the proposed FCRA Amendment Bill, and escalating US-Israel military actions against Iran.

On state assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, JIH Vice President Prof Salim Engineer called for active, responsible voter participation. “Voting is a constitutional right and moral duty,” he said, urging choices based on core issues like jobs, education, healthcare, and social justice. He pressed voters to reject divisive forces and back candidates for inclusive development and harmony. Political parties must shun money, muscle power, and hate rhetoric, keeping campaigns welfare-focused, he added. Prof Engineer criticized recent Election Commission of India (ECI) handling, saying it has eroded public trust. He demanded vigilant, impartial ECI action against Model Code breaches like hate speech to uphold democratic credibility, civil liberties, and international law.

JIH Vice President S Ameenul Hasan slammed the proposed FCRA amendments for handing excessive executive powers, including asset takeovers of schools, hospitals, and welfare groups funded by foreign aid. Without checks, this risks punishing minor errors and stifling civil society, he warned, potentially hitting vulnerable communities hardest. While backing transparency, he called for broader consultations and safeguards to protect natural justice.

Prof Salim Engineer highlighted SIR process glitches in West Bengal and elsewhere, where citizens struggle with voter list inclusion due to ECI errors like spelling mistakes. He urged the ECI to ensure transparency and fix lapses to avoid disenfranchisement, with help from parties and civil society. JIH has launched nationwide training, workshops, volunteers, help centers, and desks, aiding lakhs already.

S Ameenul Hasan condemned US-Israel airstrikes on Iran as sovereignty violations threatening regional peace, hitting civilians in schools, hospitals, and homes—in breach of humanitarian law. He demanded accountability, ceasefire, diplomacy, and India’s proactive de-escalation role, noting economic fallout like fuel disruptions. Iran can defend itself, but all must show restraint to avert wider war.
