BARAMULLA: Police on Sunday rubbished social media reports claiming terrorists had attacked a police station in Baramulla town, opened fire on government offices, and that the Chief Minister had proposed canceling the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, terming the claims “false and fabricated.”
In an official statement, the police categorically denied the reports, labeling them completely baseless and misleading, and confirmed that no such security incident had taken place in the district.
According to officials, the deliberate dissemination of this fake news appears to be a calculated attempt to stoke fear, trigger public panic, and undermine confidence during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrimage.
FIR Registered, Crackdown on Misinformation
Taking strict note of the viral rumors, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the individuals behind the creation and circulation of the malicious content.
Authorities warned that strict legal action will be initiated against all those involved, emphasizing that individuals who knowingly forward or share such unverified posts will also face penal consequences.
Public Urged to Rely on Official Channels
Baramulla Police have advised citizens not to share unverified information on social media platforms, noting that the spread of fake news disrupts public order and invites legal prosecution.
“The public is urged to remain calm and rely exclusively on information issued through official government and police channels,” the statement concluded.
