Jamia Millia Islamia Hosts HealthTech Workshop on Epigenetics and Startup Innovation

New Delhi, 23 September 2025: The Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE), in collaboration with the Faculty of Life Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia, organized a workshop on Tuesday titled “HealthTech Disruption: Epigenetics, Startups & the $Trillion Innovation Wave.” The program highlighted new opportunities at the intersection of biotechnology, epigenetics, and entrepreneurship, aimed at motivating students, researchers, and innovators to explore the trillion-dollar potential of HealthTech.

Keynote Address

Delivering the keynote, Dr. Shibashish Giri, Deputy Head, Applied Stem Cell Biology and Cell Technology, Leipzig University, Germany, shared insights from his pioneering research in epigenetics and stem cell therapies. Dr. Giri elaborated on his advanced work involving the reactivation of local stem cells in the skin, hair, liver, heart, and brain. He also highlighted breakthrough treatments in vitiligo repigmentation, hair regrowth, and cellular detoxification, stressing how regenerative medicine and epigenetics are redefining the future of personalized healthcare.

Leadership Insights

Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, Director, CIE, said, “Guided by the vision of our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, and Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the Centre strives to bridge science, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This workshop is a step towards empowering our students and innovators to convert advanced research into scalable healthcare solutions. Regenerative medicine and epigenetics are not just scientific milestones but global entrepreneurial opportunities.”

Adding to this, Prof. Zahid Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, remarked, “This collaboration reflects our dedication to exposing students and researchers to the most advanced scientific domains. HealthTech and regenerative biology are growing at an unprecedented pace, and such initiatives prepare young scientists to lead the next wave of innovation in life sciences.”

Participation and Discussions

The workshop witnessed active participation from faculty, researchers, students, and industry experts. It concluded with an interactive Q&A session where participants exchanged ideas on startup creation, funding models, and translational research pathways to build a stronger HealthTech ecosystem.
