In her lecture, Prof. Grewal traced the transnational histories of plural societies, focusing on the movement of people and ideas across geographical boundaries. She drew on premodern love stories—notably Heer-Ranjha—to illustrate how such narratives recall a time of cultural and social plurality that predated modern borders and nation-states. Her analysis suggested that these stories could inspire new forms of transnational solidarity in today’s world.
A lively question-and-answer session followed, with participants raising issues such as queer relationships, feminism in conflict zones, and the evolution of women’s solidarity in the present day. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Arushi Poddar, an MA scholar at SNCWS, marking the end of an intellectually stimulating and well-received lecture.
