Katihar: On its 29th foundation day, the Surjapuri Development Organization organized various events across the Seemanchal districts of Purnia, Kishanganj, and Katihar. During this occasion, the organization submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister demanding the inclusion of the Surjapuri caste in the Extremely Backward Class (EBC) category and simplifying the process of issuing caste certificates.
At the Balrampur Block Office in Katihar, the memorandum was handed over to the Block Development Officer under the leadership of the organization’s president, Maulana Anwarul Haque Qasmi. In Kadwa Block, Advocate Ghulam Amir, Shaukat Hussain, and Professor Marghoobul Haque led the delegation to submit the memorandum to the acting District Officer. Prominent members present on the occasion included Sanowar Alam, Naushad Alam, Anzar Alam, Arshad Ayub, Waqar Nizami, Rohil Alam, Haider Ali, and Shamshad Alam.
The memorandum demanded the removal of the Surjapuri caste from the Backward Class List-2 of the Bihar Government and its inclusion in the EBC category. Organization members stated that the Surjapuri community forms a significant population in Katihar, Purnia, Kishanganj, and Araria districts. They emphasized that the community is socially, economically, and educationally backward, making EBC status essential for their progress.
Members pointed out that due to poverty, illiteracy, and backwardness in the Seemanchal region, the Surjapuri caste has been unable to access adequate reservations and development schemes. They urged the Chief Minister and Prime Minister to take immediate and appropriate measures in this regard.
“The proposed AMU campus in Kishanganj remains an unfulfilled dream, symbolizing the neglect of Seemanchal’s educational aspirations. Announced with great hope, the campus was expected to transform the region by providing quality higher education and fostering socio-economic development. However, bureaucratic delays, lack of political will, and insufficient funding have stalled its progress, leaving the youth of the backward Seemanchal region deprived of opportunities for growth and empowerment.”
Additionally, the organization demanded the commencement of academic activities at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) branch located in Kishanganj. Members expressed that the operationalization of the AMU branch would boost educational, social, and economic development in the Seemanchal region while creating employment opportunities, helping the community overcome its backwardness.
On this occasion, several members, including Dr. Arman Ahmed, M.K. Vilayat, Abdur Rauf, Sadaf Kamali, Abu Mukarim, Tariq Anwar, and Muntakhab Anjum, from the Seemanchal Youth Club were also present.
