Srinagar, Oct 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today approved the Jammu and Kashmir Tenancy Bill, 2025. The Bill was presented by Minister for Health, Education, and Social Welfare, Sakeena Itoo, on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The legislation aims to establish a Rent Authority to oversee rental agreements, safeguarding the rights of landlords and tenants while providing a swift dispute resolution mechanism. The Bill, formally titled “L.A. Bill No. 4 of 2025,” was adopted by a voice vote in the Assembly.
An amendment proposed by MLA Nizam-ud-din Bhat to extend the dispute resolution period from thirty to ninety days under Clause 32 (2) was rejected by a voice vote.
