Srinagar(GNS): On Sunday, a weatherman predicted that the “hot wave” that had been reported across Jammu and Kashmir the day before, with the exception of Pahalgam and Gulmarg, will continue today.
“Most parts of J&K experienced a heat wave yesterday. Today is expected to be the same. From tomorrow through the 18th, expect relief from the heat, since rain is forecast,” a meteorological department official told GNS.
“A spell of light to moderate rain/thunderstorm is most expected at numerous locations across Jammu and Kashmir between May 16th (evening) and May 18th (70 percent chance),” the official added. “On May 16-17th, thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong gusty winds and hailstorm in some areas,” he said, adding, “Thereafter, no big rainfall is anticipated, but temperatures will gradually rise from May 19th.”
Meanwhile, a meteorological department official informed GNS that Srinagar’s low temperature was 13.6°C, down from 14.2°C the night before. He stated the temperature in the summer capital was 3.0°C above typical for this time of year.
Qazigund recorded a low of 10.0°C against 10.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.8°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.
Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 7.4°C against 5.8°C last night. The temperature was 2.3°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir during this time of the season, he said.
Kokernag recorded a low of 13.5°C against 12.6°C on the previous night. It was 4.2°C above normal during this time of the season for the place in south Kashmir, the official said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of 11.0°C against 9.0°C on the previous night, the official said. While 5.5°C is normal for the world famous skiing resort during this time of the season, the official said that the temperature was 5.5°C above normal for the place in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 11.5°C against 10.4°C on the previous night. The temperature was 1.9°C above normal for the district, the official told Global News Service.
Jammu recorded a low of 26.8°C against 23.3°C on the previous night, the official said. The temperature was 3.3°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 12.0°C, Batote 18.1°C and Bhaderwah 12.7°C, the official added.
