New Delhi, November 3, 2025: The 105th Foundation Day celebrations of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) culminated in a grand valedictory ceremony attended by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri V. K. Saxena, as the chief guest. The event was graced by the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi.
The ceremony commenced with a guard of honor by the JMI NCC wing, followed by a melodious rendition of the ‘Jamia Tarana’ by the school choir. Shri Saxena was felicitated by the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar.

In his address, Shri Saxena expressed his joy at celebrating the 105th Foundation Day of JMI, emphasizing its role as an institution envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore to provide inclusive, progressive education. Recalling JMI’s founding during colonial turbulence, he highlighted its mission to instill both knowledge and character, shaping India’s future. He praised JMI’s ranking as the country’s fourth-highest university and its role in fostering national development.
Shri Saxena quoted Hafiz Banarasi’s couplet, urging students to constantly move forward in pursuit of prosperity and wisdom. He emphasized the importance of spreading knowledge and serving society as moral duties. He also acknowledged the efforts of the central government under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to enhance educational infrastructure and concluded with words that inspire resilience and dedication.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Asif reflected on JMI’s remarkable journey from a modest madrasa to a leading university, currently ranked 4th in the NIRF and among the top global institutions. He outlined future plans including establishing a medical college, expanding hostels, and improving campus facilities. He highlighted the success of this year’s Talimi Mela, which saw over 20,000 books donated by faculty and students to promote reading, and lauded the vibrant cultural participation on campus.
Registrar Prof. Rizvi celebrated the widespread engagement during the six-day event, emphasizing its significance as a microcosm of society that embodies Jamia’s philosophy, “Talim se Tameer Tak” — from education to nation-building. He extended gratitude to all organizers and stakeholders for their efforts.
The event also marked the release of the Jamia Journal of Peace Studies, edited by Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi and others, by Shri Saxena. The festival brought together notable personalities from various fields, showcasing Jamia’s diverse intellectual and cultural fabric.
As the celebrations closed with the JMI flag-lowering ceremony amid illuminated grounds, thousands of students and faculty bid farewell, marking a week of joyous remembrance and cultural vibrancy that will be cherished for years to come.
