Dr. Khalid Raza wins for Interdisciplinary Sciences, and JMI is honored for excellence in Natural Sciences, highlighting the university’s research leadership in India.
New Delhi, September 22, 2025: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has achieved a rare feat by securing dual honors at the India Research Excellence – Citation Awards 2025, organized by Clarivate (Web of Science).
Dual Recognition for JMI
In the individual category, Dr. Khalid Raza, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, was awarded for Research Excellence in Interdisciplinary Sciences. His pioneering work in Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, Drug Discovery, and AI-driven Biomedical Research has opened new frontiers in genetics, genomics, and precision medicine by integrating machine learning with bioinformatics.
In the institutional category, JMI received the Research Excellence in Natural Sciences award, cementing its reputation as a hub of advanced research and scientific innovation at both national and international levels.
Leaders’ Reactions
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif hailed the recognition as a moment of pride, stating that the awards reflect both the university’s strong research culture and the outstanding contributions of its faculty. He congratulated Dr. Raza and acknowledged the collective efforts of the academic community in bringing this distinction to JMI.
Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi emphasized that the achievement highlights the creativity, dedication, and collaborative spirit of JMI’s researchers. He added that while Dr. Raza’s individual recognition is a shining example of excellence, the institutional award mirrors the broader research strength found across the university.
About the Citation Awards
First launched in 2004, the India Research Excellence – Citation Awards are presented biennially by Clarivate to honor leading scientists and institutions across the country. The 2025 edition, marking the 10th anniversary, recognized nine individuals and eleven institutions based on an evaluation by an expert panel from the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). The selection combined bibliometric analysis—covering highly cited papers between 2019 and 2024—with qualitative reviews drawn from the Web of Science Core Collection and InCites Benchmarking & Analytics.
With this landmark double recognition, JMI has reinforced its position as one of India’s premier research-driven universities, committed to advancing academic excellence, innovation, and global collaborations.
