Bandipora(GNS): The Director Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Kashmir has been directed by the District Election Officer (DEO) Bandipora to take action against a Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) councillor in Municipal Council Bandipora of north Kashmir for holding a fair pricing shop licence in violation of standards.
According to sources familiar with the situation, councillor Saleema Akhter of Municipal Council Bandipora holds a Fair Price Shop (FPS) licence for Ward No. 6 of Bandipora, which she used to keep the election department in the dark for several months.
“However, the incumbent President of MC Bandipora filed an election complaint against the councillor, which was investigated by the Additional District Development Commissioner Bandipora,” they stated.
The enquiry officer submitted his detailed report vide No:-ADDC/BPR./2022-23/482 dated:-10/05/2022, they said.
In this backdrop, they said, the case was deliberated upon and was perused threadbare.
“It was discovered that any representative’s disqualification occurs under section 16 of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act 2000. It is also requested that the person in question has been elected, and her candidacy must be decided by sub-section 2 of section 16 of this act, for which the Director Urban Local Bodies is empowered enough by virtue of the said Act and must take a call as laid down in the sacred provisions of the Law,” according to a letter from District Election Officer Bandipora to the Director Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Kashmir.
“You are as such requested to kindly take the appropriate action as warranted under norms as the elected representative is having FPS license for ward No.6 of Bandipora and is at the same time as an Elected Councillor from Ward No. 4 MC Bandipora,” the letter added.
