Jammu, Sep 1: On Thursday, a two-story under-construction building on Janipur Road, opposite the offices of Sub-Registrars and Registration (JDA complex), collapsed in Jammu. However, no casualties were reported, according to officials.
According GNS, a police officer, Vishal Sharma of Roopnagar lifted a structure using hydraulic lifts (jacks) about two weeks ago and converted it into a two-story building. However, the “unstable” structure collapsed.
The building suddenly collapsed around 6 p.m., according to Deputy Commissioner Jammu, and its debris fell towards the roadside, blocking it.
The administration swung into action and began a rescue operation immediately, according to the Deputy Commissioner. “Civil administration, Police, SDRF, Jammu municipal corporation, civil defence, corporators of w.no.35,36, and 37 reached there and coordinated rescue operations,” the DC said, adding that “some electric polls on the road near the spot also collapsed, disrupting power supply.” The DC reported that 90% of the debris had been cleared after a three-hour-long rescue operation. The road will be reopened shortly after the rescue operation is completed, according to the DC.
