Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a habitual fraudster for duping a job seeker of lakhs of rupees by issuing a fake J&K Bank appointment letter.
According to the Crime Branch, the chargesheet was produced against Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Lashtiyal Kalaroos, Kupwara, before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kupwara. The accused faces charges under FIR No. 18/2026, registered under Sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using a forged document as genuine), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the RPC.
The action follows a written complaint alleging that Mir promised the victim a government-category job and extorted a significant sum of money. To execute the scam, he provided the victim with a forged appointment letter purportedly issued by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of J&K Bank.
Investigators confirmed that evidence collected during the probe successfully established the fraud, proving the allegations against the accused.
