Date:

New Delhi, October 27, 2025: Recognizing that corruption poses a significant barrier to the nation’s economic, political, and social advancement, employees of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) today committed to an integrity pledge aimed at fostering a corruption-free institution and country. The pledge was administered by the Registrar of JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, in both Hindi and English at the lawns of the main administrative block of the university.

The pledge was administered as part of Vigilance Awareness Week, being observed from October 27 to November 2, 2025, under the theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility” (सतर्कता: हमारी साझा जिम्मेदारी). The week emphasizes the importance of integrity in public life and demonstrates the university’s commitment to implementing and enforcing the policy of zero tolerance against corruption.

Teaching faculty members and non-teaching staff of JMI pledged, among other things, to promote ethical business practices and foster a culture of honesty and integrity; not to offer or accept bribes; demonstrate commitment toward good corporate governance based on transparency, accountability, and fairness; adhere to relevant laws, rules, and compliance mechanisms in the conduct of business; adopt a code of ethics for all employees; sensitize employees about laws and regulations relevant to their work for honest discharge of their duties; provide grievance redressal and whistleblower mechanisms for reporting grievances and fraudulent activities; and protect the rights and interests of stakeholders and society at large.

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), as part of its efforts to promote probity in public life and achieve a corruption-free society, observes Vigilance Awareness Week every year in the week when October 31, the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, falls.
