New Delhi: Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam, a visionary scholar, global thinker, mentor, and tireless advocate for education, social justice, and the empowerment of marginalized communities, passed away in New Delhi early on January 13, 2026, at the age of 80. His demise has left a profound void in academic, social, and religious circles across India and internationally.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind President Syed Sadatullah Husaini has expressed deep grief over the passing of Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam, founder and longtime Chairman of the Institute of Objective Studies (IOS). He described Dr. Alam’s death as a profound loss to the Indian Muslim community and the broader realm of Islamic scholarship.
In his condolence message, Syed Sadatullah Husaini stated, “Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam was a rare blend of a dedicated scholar, visionary institution-builder, and selfless community servant. His life exemplified intellectual integrity, moral clarity, and an unshakeable faith in knowledge as the bedrock of empowerment and justice.”
Husaini highlighted how Dr. Alam dedicated his life to fostering ideas, institutions, and individuals, always prioritizing research, reason, and long-term vision over rhetoric and short-term reactions. “He believed communities advance not through mere emotion or protests, but via rigorous scholarship, reliable data, and principled dialogue with society and the state,” he said. Husaini offered special tribute to Dr. Alam’s pivotal role in establishing lasting platforms for Muslim intellectual discourse in India. “Through IOS, Dr. Alam built a space that promoted intellectual confidence, academic rigor, and civilizational introspection. He motivated generations of scholars to analyze society candidly, speak thoughtfully, and contribute meaningfully to national and global conversations.”
He also praised Dr. Alam’s character—marked by humility, patience, and steadfast resolve. Even amid illness, Dr. Alam stayed mentally sharp and ethically committed. “His resilience, composure, and lifelong dedication to learning and institution-building won him admiration across ideological and geographical divides,” Husaini added.
In closing, Syed Sadatullah Husaini remarked, “Dr. Mohammad Manzoor Alam’s legacy teaches us that true, lasting change stems from faith-rooted ideas, ethically guided scholarship, and service-oriented leadership. Though he has returned to his Lord, his intellectual contributions and institutional legacy will continue to enlighten and inspire.” He prayed that Allah bestow the highest ranks in Jannat upon the departed soul, accept his lifelong service, forgive his lapses, and grant patience and fortitude to his family, colleagues, and all those touched by his work.
