JIH President Syed Sadatullah Hussaini Condemns Arrest of Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan

Date:

New Delhi: Syed Sadatullah Hussaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has strongly condemned the recent arrest of Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan and others in Bareilly, calling the action unjust and deeply troubling. He expressed serious concern over the incident, stating that the arrest of the respected scholar and several others marks a disturbing trend fueled by communal politics and governance driven by hatred. Hussaini emphasized that what began as a peaceful and heartfelt expression of devotion with the slogan “I Love Prophet Muhammad ﷺ” has been unfairly framed as a threat to public order.

He said, “Criminalizing such a sincere affirmation of faith with sweeping FIRs and mass arrests is not only unjust but an alarming attack on India’s rich civilizational heritage of respect and pluralism. For centuries, mutual respect among India’s diverse communities has been a cornerstone of our society. It is political manipulation, not genuine public concern, that has manufactured this crisis.”

Syed Sadatullah Hussaini further highlighted reports indicating that Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan was initially placed under house arrest, followed by the registration of extensive FIRs under the stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, implicating hundreds of Muslims without a thorough investigation. He condemned the derogatory remarks made by some political figures against the respected scholar, exposing the malicious political motives behind this development. Such disproportionate use of state power undermines the rule of law and fosters alienation and distrust.

He noted that while India has witnessed numerous protests and agitations throughout its democratic history, allegations of violence must be thoroughly investigated before action is taken. Hussaini stressed the principle that law enforcement must act with fairness and proportionality. Past similar agitations were handled with measured responses, avoiding draconian charges and indiscriminate criminalization of entire communities. Selective and excessive actions targeting one group violate both constitutional values and principles of just governance.

Hussaini warned that the misuse of state machinery and law enforcement to further political agendas only serves to deepen communal divides. He observed a repeating cycle around election times where communities are polarized, social trust is eroded, and the nation’s social fabric is sacrificed for narrow political interests. This dangerous trend weakens democratic institutions and constitutional principles.

Appealing to the Muslim community, Syed Sadatullah Hussaini urged them to remain peaceful, patient, and inspired by the Prophet’s ﷺ teachings of mercy and compassion. Simultaneously, he called on the government to withdraw the exaggerated charges, release those wrongfully detained, and restore fairness and justice in governance.

“India’s true strength lies in its Constitution, pluralism, and the culture of mutual respect among its people. Undermining these foundations for short-term political gain harms not just one community but the entire nation,” Hussaini concluded.
