Srinagar, April 1: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Wednesday filed a chargesheet before the Special Judge under the NIA Act in Srinagar against Dr. Umer Farooq Bhat, son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat from Bugam, Kulgam, and his wife Shahzada Akther, also from Bugam, Kulgam. The case stems from FIR No. 05/2025 at CIK Srinagar Police Station, registered under Sections 152 and 62(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 13, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to a CIK handout to GNS, credible intelligence revealed that Shahzada Akther, in conspiracy with the banned terrorist group Dukhtaran-e-Millat and with her husband Dr. Umer Farooq Bhat’s active support, created and spread false, fabricated narratives about the Kashmir situation.
Investigations showed the couple misused social media and encrypted apps to distort facts, promote secessionist sentiments, and incite hatred against India. They also uploaded content aimed at fueling religious disharmony, radicalizing youth, sparking violence, and disrupting public order—threatening national sovereignty.
With substantial evidence gathered, CIK submitted the chargesheet for judicial proceedings. The agency reaffirmed its resolve to protect national security, vowing strict action against threats to India’s unity and integrity.
