St. Petersburg, Russian Federation | April 2026: In a poignant blend of diplomacy and heritage, Haji Syed Salman Chishty, Gaddi Nashin of Dargah Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishty (RA), Ajmer Sharif, and Chairman of the Chishty Foundation, met with Ambassador Neelam Rani, Consul General of India in St. Petersburg. Their discussion focused on deepening India-Russia relations via arts, culture, spiritual traditions, soft power, and people-to-people connections.
The meeting occurred during Haji Syed Salman Chishty’s official visit to St. Petersburg and Moscow. Amid the city’s historic East-West crossroads, it symbolized a union of India’s diplomatic excellence and Sufi spiritual legacy.
Advancing Civilizational Diplomacy
Both leaders agreed that the trusted India-Russia partnership—rooted in defense and trade—should expand into culture and spirituality, India’s strongest soft power tools. Key ideas included joint festivals, Sufi music and qawwali events in Russia, performing arts exchanges, and exhibitions highlighting shared aesthetics.
The Sufi Bridge Between Nations
Central to the talks was spiritual and interfaith cooperation. Haji Syed Salman Chishty highlighted how the Chishty Sufi ethos of “Peace with all”—spanning 800 years—resonates with Russia’s multi-religious heritage, especially in Tatarstan, Dagestan, Bashkortostan, and the Caucasus. Proposals included interfaith dialogues, scholarly exchanges, and joint delegations.
They emphasized building lasting ties through youth exchanges, academic collaborations, and cultural programs, echoing historical bonds like Tolstoy’s interest in Indian philosophy, Russian studies of Sanskrit and Vedanta, and Gandhi’s influence.
Haji Syed Salman Chishty said: “Ambassador Neelam Rani ji represents the pinnacle of India’s civilizational diplomacy. India-Russia bonds speak the language of shared humanity, spirituality, and peace. We are committed to spreading Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (RA)’s message of love, compassion, and harmony worldwide—finding a warm welcome in Russia.”
Ambassador Neelam Rani welcomed the visit, praised the promotion of India’s heritage, and pledged the Consulate’s full support for initiatives fostering deeper people-to-people ties.
