Srinagar, September 14:(Warish Shah): A 24-year-old man sustained critical injuries in a landmine explosion near army fencing in the Khundru area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Shahid Ahmad, son of Mohd Yousuf from Larnoo, was severely wounded after entering the army fencing area at 21 FAD Khundru when the landmine detonated.
Senior police officials confirmed that Ahmad was immediately rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag in critical condition where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which the youth managed to enter the restricted army fencing area. The probe will examine security protocols and determine how the breach occurred.
The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in the region where such fenced areas are maintained by security forces as part of counter-insurgency measures.
