NEW DELHI | February 16, 2026: In a major boost to higher education in the capital, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) have officially entered into a strategic partnership. The two prestigious institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today at JMI’s Yasser Arafat Hall to foster academic excellence, joint research, and social inclusivity.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi (Registrar, JMI) and Col. Omkar Singh, Retd. (Registrar, AUD), in the presence of JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif and AUD Vice Chancellor Prof. Anu Singh Lather.

A Vision for Social Justice and Excellence

Prof. Anu Singh Lather (VC, AUD) expressed optimism about the partnership, noting that AUD is guided by the vision of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

“Our initiatives promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. This MoU will be instrumental in fostering collaboration across interdisciplinary areas, especially in liberal arts and social sciences,” she stated.

Prof. Mazhar Asif (VC, JMI) highlighted the historical significance of both institutions. He noted that while AUD follows the path of Baba Saheb, JMI—a 105-year-old institution—was founded by freedom fighters under the patronage of Mahatma Gandhi.

“Both institutions are united in their commitment to uplifting marginalized groups, including SCs, STs, and women,” Prof. Asif remarked. He also emphasized JMI’s excellence in Law, Engineering, and Management, noting that the university contributes over 30 bureaucrats to India’s civil services annually.

Institutional Synergy

Prof. Mahtab Alam Rizvi (Registrar, JMI) added that the collaboration would “leverage and synergize” the strengths of both universities, creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem for years to come.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Col. Omkar Singh (Retd.), attended by senior deans and officials from both universities, including Prof. Zubair Meenai, who played a pivotal role in coordinating the agreement.
