Jammu, November 05: A fierce gunfight has erupted between security forces and suspected terrorists in the dense Kalaban forest area of Chhatru, Kishtwar district, early Wednesday morning. The Indian Army, in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched Operation Chhatru following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the region.
According to the Army’s WhiteKnight Corps, alert troops established contact with the terrorists, leading to an exchange of fire. The operation is ongoing, and intermittent gunfire continues as security forces attempt to flush out the militants from the forested terrain. Initial reports suggest that at least three terrorists are believed to be hiding in the area, and the entire region has been cordoned off to prevent any escape.
Security agencies have intensified search operations and deployed additional reinforcements to the site. Details about casualties or arrests are still awaited as the situation remains fluid. This encounter is part of a broader counter-terror effort targeting militant groups active in the upper reaches of Jammu region districts, including Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, and Poonch.
