SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, chaired a high-level security review meeting on Thursday to finalize arrangements for two major upcoming events: the NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination and the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026).
According to a police statement issued to GNS, the meeting primarily focused on streamlining security, traffic management, and public facilitation to ensure both events are conducted smoothly, fairly, and securely.
The high-profile meeting was attended by the IGP Traffic, all Range DIGs of the Kashmir Zone, DIG Traffic, SSP PCR Kashmir, SO to IGP Kashmir, all District SSPs of the Kashmir Zone, and several other senior officers.
Strict Security Blueprint for NEET UG Re-Exam
With the NEET UG Re-Examination on the horizon, IGP Birdi directed field officers to strictly implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all examination centers. Key directives included:
- Crowd & Access Control: Deploying adequate police personnel to manage crowds and maintain law and order around centers.
- Frisking & Verification: Conducting thorough frisking and identity verification of candidates at all entry points in close coordination with exam authorities.
- Material Safety: Ensuring maximum security during the transportation, escorting, and handling of confidential examination materials.
- Traffic Facilitation: Managing traffic flows to prevent congestion near centers, ensuring students can reach their venues without delays.
“Officers must maintain professional conduct, practice public-friendly policing, and ensure seamless coordination among all stakeholders,” IGP Birdi emphasized.
Foolproof Security Layout for SANJY-2026
Turning the focus to the annual Amarnath Yatra (SANJY-2026), the Kashmir Police Chief stressed zero compromise on safety guidelines.
- Supervision: District SSPs have been ordered to personally supervise all security arrangements and ensure foolproof security for Yatra convoys through real-time monitoring.
- Timing Regulations: Strict enforcement of convoy movement schedules and prescribed cut-off timings will be put in place to guarantee safe passage.
- Inter-Agency Coordination: Seamless communication and coordination among various security and civil agencies were highlighted as vital for the Yatra’s success.
